Twin Turret Generator
Cranfield Precision's Twin Turret Generator machine is a completely new machine tool concept. The machine concept is covered by UK patent no. 2456843, UK patent application no. 0922392.6 and other patent applications pending in the UK and abroad.
OGM - Optics Grinding Machine
The Cranfield Precision OGM 2000 High Precision Glass Grinding Machine features hydrostatic bearings, linear motors, FEA optimised base and bridge assembly. The OGM 2000 has a component capacity of Ø2000mm by 500mm with a smaller OGM 1200 version also available.
For over 43 years, Cranfield Precision has been working with a wide variety of machining processes such as grinding, super-abrasive grinding, diamond turning and hard turning.
LT3 - Large Crank Grinding Machine
Cranfield Precision provided R&D assistance in the design of a new range of large crank grinding machines, the Fives Landis LT3 orbital grinding machine.
High Performance Cam Grinder
The very latest precision engineering methods have been incorporated in the Landis Lund LT1 Cam Grinding Machine. Modern bus systems (SERCOS and either ProfiBus or Interbus) give high speed access to the machine sub-systems. Linear motors have been used to improve machine dynamics reducing profile errors at production rates to below a micron. The hydrostatic ways use magnetic pre-load minimising mechanical complexity without detracting from axis straightness.
Master Cam Grinding
The manufacture of automotive camshafts was revolutionised by this machine, the world's first high production rate CNC profile grinder, now manufactured in series production and sold world-wide by Landis-Lund a Division of UNOVA UK Ltd. Employing the CUPE Electronic Gear-box principle under high speed computer control the machine synchronises linear & rotary motion to generate cam-lobe shapes. In-process gauging automatically compensates for the dress changes in grinding wheel diameter to hold component accuracy to better than 3µm.
Ultra Precision Cylindrical Grinding
The machine uses hydrostatic bearings throughout with natural granite based linear ways. The machine is totally enclosed and swamped in a temperature controlled oil mist to ±0.1°C. The main work table slide is a trapped hydrostatic bearing mounted to be normal to the wheel infeed to make roll and yaw error motions second order.
Component accuracy - cylindricity better than ±0.1µm over 50mm of length, diameter to ±0.2µm, and surface finish 24nm CLA on hardened steels.
